Development for tomorrow

Recently there was the eviction of families of Economic Weaker Section staying in Ejipura by BBMP for the development of the property and for a multi-storied building. An old lady, who had to stay in an open tent as her shanty was demolished, reportedly died due to cold. Another woman, who's husband is unemployed due to asthma and has a son studying in Xth, threatened to immolate herself. Thousands have lost their their homes. Where will they go?

When we see the developments happening in the city I often wonder how much more foolish can the planning department be. Is there no one who has some commonsense? They plan for tomorrow without thinking of today. Every planning is done for tomorrow and is completed the day after. But by then we need another planning to overcome the problems of that day. Public seems to have lost all senses on what's happening around. If Viswesvaraya were to be alive today he would have hung himself.

Every road is dug up on the pretext of development works such as metro, road widening, fly-overs, underpass and what not. But why is there no alternative thought about before starting these works? The roads are in such horrible state that vehicles move through places where there is no road at all because where there was road once is just mud now. City roads look like mud roads in villages we have seen decades back.

These development works are done keeping in mind vehicular movements in the current year or maybe 2 years later. But by the time these projects are completed it'll become useless because by then the number of vehicles would've doubled. What is the point in these developments if this is the condition? It is good that we suffer today for a better tomorrow. But what if we have to suffer even tomorrow? We live neither today nor tomorrow. These developments are not only a waste of money and time for everyone but also a nuisance.

I only wish if there was any political party that think of the people than their leaders' greed for money, so that we can live today as well as have a better tomorrow. Alternate roads could've been made before digging up existing roads. As for the Ejipura residents, they should have been provided food and shelter before pulling down their shelters. It could have been done step by step, if not by evacuating and bringing down the whole area at once. All we need is a change in the current political structure and people who has got some sense.
